Who are we? Who have we become?

I’m Jamin Parker Mayer, the owner, and operator of this business.  We are a small team, by choice.  We have acquired a large, intimate customer base and we are in high demand due to quality, experience, and fairness.

The backbone of the operations is a father and son operation.  The “Parker” in the Parker Tree Service is my 19, year-old son.  I named the business after him in our humble beginnings as my wife and new-born son was my priority back in April of 2002.   Parker has been working with me full-time since June of 2019!  Can you believe it?!

After 18 years of local to Longmont tree service, I’ve shifted our priorities to preventative tree care over therapeutic tree care.  There are numerous abiotic and biotic stressors our local urban trees are facing.  Most of the challenges are within the tree’s vascular system.  Therefore, I’m focusing our priorities towards internal systemic tree care.  This business move is out of conviction and observational data over the years.  If I truly appreciate trees, which I do, I want to be at the forefront of helping trees.  I don’t want to be on the tail end of tree problems; cutting trees down all the time.  I’ve removed thousands of trees.  I’ve earned the merit badge.

We have customers who have watched us try all sorts of business models over the years.  I thank them for their support and patience as I’ve been growing as a person in this industry.

I’ve been integral in the backbone of the operations and I’m feeling like…. well, I feel like I’m 44 years old and have worked hard manual labor for all of my working career. ;-).  On top of that, I’ve worked a full-time job managing the business.

So, in short, I also need to heal.  I’m not 25 anymore.  LOL!  So, I have to limit the tree pruning and tree removal projects I accept as I have injuries to keep in check.  Therefore, much of our peak season will be devoted to tree injections as it is less labor-intensive.

Lastly, I have a family!  I have 7 children that need my attention.

(If you don’t know me by now, I’m a transparent kind of person).

A Deeper Story to How Parker Tree Service Began

A common question I get is, “How did you end up doing tree work?” Well, I have a unique story as to how I ended up in the tree business.

I went to Bible college with the intention of being a full-time youth pastor when I was finished. Well, as I was applying for seminary for my master’s I was forced to be honest with myself when I was filling out the application. What got me to really think was a line that read, “Explain how you were called to full-time ministry.”

Frankly, I had to examine if I was “called” or not. I concluded I had a desire to work with youth, but full-time was not for me. In hindsight, I think I was peer pressured to go for youth ministry. So, I began praying for God to lead me to what He wanted me to do.

About 4 months later I could not get the idea of a tree business out of my head. I researched tree services online for hours. I thought, “I think I could get into this.” Well, not long after that I saw an ad in the paper reading, “Tree Trimmers Wanted.” I followed up with the ad and got the job. Within a couple of days, I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. This story may be kind of silly, but I tell you the truth. God answered my prayer.

As you learned above, I named our business after my firstborn son.
